"New Grange in County Meth Ireland
", ©2006 Elroy Christenson

New Grange is an ancient tomb in County Meth northeast of Trim.  This site is one of the oldest in Europe going back to about 3000bce.  This is before the building of Stonehenge.   It is based on astronomy by the placing of a long chamber that shines a light to the very end onto a carved panel on one particular day of the year.  The white stone exterior is unique and beautiful but there is some argument if it is an authentic reconstruction.  The original carved stones still line the base of the mound.  There are many more mounds in the area.  One is even larger but none so grandly placed.
