Roman Forum, Italy

Italy.rome.72.jpg

"Roman Forum" ©2001 Elroy Christenson

The Roman Forum, beginning in the 6c bce remains a fascinating place long after the Roman Empire disappeared. It has been used as a quarry and a place to graze animals up to the 19c when tourism became an important industry. The Arch of Titus is in the center with the Colosseum, Flavian Amphitheatre (75 ce) to the right. The Arch of Titus was constructed to commemorate the capture of Jerusalem (70 ce).
